History
In 1853, six Sisters of Saint Joseph journeyed from
Carondelet, Missouri to Wheeling, Virginia.
They came in response to the request of the Catholic Bishop for help with his young diocese.
These first Sisters immediately began to care for the sick and underserved.
In so doing, they planted the seeds of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Wheeling.
Since then, new generations of these dedicated women have reached out to God's people throughout
West Virginia in:
Healthcare and education,
Pastoral and social ministries,
and in
Service to all seeking a deeper union with God.
In 1996, after 144 years of ministry, the Sisters planted yet a new
seed --

the
SSJCF...
linking its resources with the gifts and visions of local leaders
and local communities. |
