Health Ministry Initiative

Sister Molly Bauer, CSJ -- Program Director

The Health Ministry Initiative is designed to promote wholistic health by encouraging and supporting the development of health ministries  in faith-based congregations.  The SSJCF provides both program support to further this Initiative, as well as grants for collaborative projects in the SSJCF funding area with one or more of the following goals:

·        increasing community awareness and knowledge of wholistic health, with emphasis on the spiritual component;

·        establishing new health ministries;

·        development and stabilization of existing health ministries; and,

·        building relationships and collaboration among health ministries and with the healthcare and/or health promotion community.

A Health Ministry can be analogized as a bridge that  connects people in a congregation to the information and resources they need to achieve a whole and healthy lifestyle. Health Ministries work with the faith community, and can serve as an extension of the medical field.     (Read more...)

The Easter Season 50-day period in which we celebrate the Easter story of change and transformation.   It is a time to open ourselves to the ever surprising grace of God.   As we take time to reflect upon the Resurrection accounts in scripture, may we also ponder our personal experiences of resurrection and new life.  May we open our minds and hearts to the God who is coaxing us to greater transformation and wholeness.  May we be ever mindful of the presence of the Spirit in our lives in the ordinary and the unexpected.  As we strive to be mindful of God’s loving and strengthening presence may we grow in our ability to be open to all that is part and parcel of our lives.   May we, with God’s grace, perceive the irresistible power of God’s Spirit transforming everything despite any and all appearances to the contrary.   May we recognize God’s power at work in the wretchedness of life among the poor in the inner city, in the chaos of war, in random acts of violence, in the desolation of prisons, in families torn by dissensions, in the loneliness of homeless shelters, in substandard nursing homes and in hospitals lacking sufficient personnel and medications.  May we distinguish the transforming power of God at work amid the injustice of people and institutions, and in the inexplicable suffering of the innocent as well as in the beauty of nature, art, human friendship and servant leadership.

During this Easter season as we once again sing Alleluia, the song of ecstatic love, joy, praise, adoration and gratitude, may we indeed proclaim the triumph of God over death in every form.  May we know in greater depth that all things work together for good.  May we rejoice in the knowledge that the God who is calling us to divine union, is present in all of creation, and has the potential to transform every aspect of our lives.  Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
